Techno-Tribal Dance/Harmony Festival

Every summer The Harmony Festival and it's night-time counterpart festival Techno-Tribal Dance bring the best in Electronic, Global Dance music from all-over the world to the North-Bay California town of Santa Rosa. This June 12th and 13th Harmony After Dark celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the legendary Techno-Tribal Dance and its bedazzling celebrations of music, underground dance culture, art and performance!
Last year was the first year I attended the event and it was eye and ear opening! The festival is the perfect size, not too-big not too-small, plenty of diverse stages, vendors, and the epic scenery of Northern California make it an unforgettable experience.
This year Six Degrees artists David Starfire and Gaudi will be performing at Techno-Tribal on a bill that includes Balkan Beat Box, K'naan, Matisyahu and many more musical, visual and performance artists.

Aes Dana- Adonai

Today we have another slice of beautifully pulsing electronica from our friends at the fine Ultimae label who have been nice enough to allow us to share a "sneak peak" track from the upcoming new release from Aes Dana. The brain child of French composer and Ultimae co-manager, Vincent Villuis, Aes Dana has been serving up lush and beautiful sounds over the course of three previous albums and through many tracks on compilations from around the world. The new record Leylines will be released on June 3 and is sure to continue to cement Villius' reputation as one of electronica's most interesting sonic architects.

PS Mueller

PS Mueller is possibly the funniest guy I know (and that's saying something, as I know some REALLY funny guys). Pete and I met when we were both DJ/Announcers at WIBA FM in Madison Wisconsin. I knew we were going to be life long friends when he came in one night towards the end of my on air shift complaining that I was playing "Baby's on Fire" by Brian Eno because HE was planning on playing it on his shift. For a few years in Madison, Pete and I had a collaborative music project going under the catchy moniker, Pete n' Bob and we even scored a dance performance together. In recent years, Mueller has found a new career voicing the character of Doyle Redland (as well as many others) on the Onion Radio News. The man has many talents but the true, un distilled evidence of his twisted genius can be found in his cartoons- which can be seen in newspapers and magazines around the country, as well as in his many fine book collections.

I can't tell you how gratifying it has been to work on this record with one of West Africa's rising stars. Yes, Vieux Farka Touré is the son of the beloved and legendary, Ali Farka Touré but in his young career, he has already begun to carve out his own place on the global stage. With his Six Degrees debut, Fondo (the Road), I think he steps confidently into the international spotlight fully in his own right, with an album that puts his guitar skills front & center and features everything from gorgeously haunting African blues to scorching rockers and African Reggae.

In order to help bring this project to fruition, we enlisted the production assistance of Ex-Centric Sound System's Yossi Fine the talented Israeli bass player and producer, who we have worked with on records by Jef Stott, Karsh Kale and others. Yossi has played with everyone from David Bowie to Deepak Chopra and I was quite happy when he re-located both his family and his recording studio to Northern California, allowing us to work more closely.

Yossi traveled to Vieux's home town of Bamako in Mali to record the basic tracks for Fondo and then Vieux flew out to the Bay Area to finish the record at Yossi's studio. Along the way, it has been a tremendous pleasure getting to know Vieux and to watch first hand as he develops into a world class artist and a uniquely skilled guitar player with a sound all his own.

You'll get to hear the fruits of all of our labors when Fondo (the Road) is released on Six Degrees Records on May 26th. Until then, check out this free taster track to whet your appetites for what we think is going to be one of the world music releases of the year.
