I'm not sure when I first heard Alice Russell's voice. It might have been on one of her early collaborations with Quantic, or her version of "Seven Nation Army" that she did with the group Nostalgia 77. While I'm not clear on the exact moment of the revelation, I DO remember my response, which was something along the lines of "Holy mother of mercy, WHO the hell is that?".
Before Amy Winehouse and waaaaay before Duffy made retro-raspy voiced soul safe for the airwaves again, Alice Russell was belting out vocal performances that she seemed to be channeling from some 70 year old, soul diva from another era. After a series of goose bump inducing vocal cameos on various projects with other producers, Alice found her musical soul mate and foil in TM Juke ,a young brit wunderkid producer and instrumentalist who effortlessly seems to embrace soul, funk, hip-hop and jazz influences and whose arrangement sense mixes the best from the past with the street smarts of the present. Together, Russell and Juke have whipped up one of the freshest sounds in recent memory and put all of the pieces together into Alice's latest solo record, Pot of Gold.
We are incredibly excited to be releasing this record in North & South America and happy to be slipping you this free taste of it's many pleasures.

Hey Bob, are you going to release this via emusic as well?
Yes Michelle. Right now it is an i-tunes exclusive but it will be up everywhere in a couple of months-

A couple of months?!?!
I- tunes...........i have many rude words for I-tunes. But i'll just say: It is like a virus. I'll just have to wait 'till it gets released through more consumer and dj-friendly channels. Did you consider Beatport or http://www.digital-tunes.net
These portals offer music also in Wav-format. Better quality, better sounds when dj-ing.
I thought it would be in the best interest of the artist to have music available through as many channels as possible in order to reach as many people as possible.

Esta,
I understand your anti-iTUNES stance, and I agree with it, even though I'm a Mac guy (graphic designer) ...
Like SONY World, Mac World is a closed system that wants to keep it simple, and expensive, but cool. And it works. So...
Global Noize did say i-tunes exclusive, which means, it's a business deal and that it's done.
But you're right, more options and more seeding is always better for the farmer and the field (to get back to basics on ya!)
By the way, I wish Alice Russell all the good luck, popular growth, and does some great songs. She's got soul and style. It's natural, and so easy to groove to. If she could get some intensity in the high notes, some more command, like Aretha and Patti, whoa, she'd have it all!

Pot of Gold is now available for sale EVERYWHERE.
I have addressed the anti-i-tunes issue before but will say it again. We are a business and i-tunes still accounts for 85% of our digital sales business. With physical retailers going out of business everyday, we would be doing ourselves (and our artists) a disservice by not doing business with i-tunes.
Giving i-tunes a limited exclusive gives a record increased visabilty with i-tunes and for a developing artist like Alice can make a BIG difference in sales.
