Akwaaba Music is a newish label that is focusing on releasing undiscovered gems by artists from West Africa. Label chief Benjamin LeBrave is going beyond finding obscure vinyl and putting it on compilations, instead he is doing some meticulous research in the field and meeting current musicians and artists in Angola that are making kuduro tracks that have never been played outside Africa. Akwaaba is also unearthing some beautiful music from past-masters, like Carlos Lamartine who plays a style called semba. The track Kimbemba is indicative of the rest of the album, great vocals and rhythmic guitars with traditional carnival rhythms.
